My first two years were spent in a legal studies program, so my undergrad experience was split between Corporate Legal Studies and Jurisprudence and Business studies. As the program is an accelerated and intensive 15 months, I’m still a first year – but so much has been packed into this time. I want to be the one who charts the course and motivates a group of talented people to create solutions that rewrite global norms and truths about poverty, human rights, and more. In my lifetime I’ve already seen social media help people incite political change and fight for their own justice and emancipation and I’ve seen FinTech change how people fund their businesses and grow their livelihoods all over the world. This is just the beginning. Accepted: Lastly, what are your top three tips for getting the most out of your b-school experience? Mischaela: 1. Expect to learn more from your classmates and their experience than from your professor. It is pretty common among MBAs to be highly driven and competitive, but in your MBA it’s important to orient your way of thinking to the fact that you will learn more if you learn from your peers. Hearing their explanation for a concept or their application of a method or analysis through the unique filter of their occupation, education, and background will make your experience so much richer. Don’t see them as your competitors, see them as your teachers. 2. Be more open minded than usual. My MBA was a really eye opening experience for me in terms of showing me just how much I make judgments, perceptions, or form ideas and opinions with more than a little bias or built-in thinking. Being accepted into a program with a highly diverse student body (approx. 100 different nations represented in a class of 120) has really pushed me to listen three times as much as I talk (the usual saying is listen twice as much as you talk). Admittedly, early in my program I judged certain concepts in business, industries, and approaches with inherited thinking. What’s worse is I often judged some nations, cultures, or people in the same way. My MBA experience has taught me to question my reactions and question my deeply held beliefs and forever keep assessing. Don’t settle your mind on something and put blinders on, question everything and consider everything. Labyrinth thinking (as in just channeling yourself forward in a set path) will ge t you nowhere, you must think about life and business like teleportation. You can go anywhere, just choose. Don’t railroad track yourself in one direction. 3. Time management should be your â€Å"minor.†Ã‚  If business strategy and all it entails is your â€Å"major† in your MBA, then time management should be your minor. This time in your life is likely the moment you’ll feel the big shift to being highly accountable for every minute of your schedule. As an executive in training, when you graduate from MBA you’ll likely be on track for the kind of job where time management is absolutely key. Napster Analysis Essay Sean Fanning, the creator of Napster, had no idea of the effects when he jumpstarted Napster in 1998. Hundreds of thousands of songs were being exchanged by the blink of an eye, minute after minute, millions by the hour. This had the record companies and artists heads spinning with no solution for the matter in sight. From the greed stricken record industry executives to the teenagers downloading the latest Limp Bizkit track, it seemed as though everyone had their own stance towards the file sharing experience. Despite its popularity, not everyone was thrilled with Napster and other file sharing communities. The continuous usage of Napster causes catastrophic long-term effects for the music industries. The record labels have been the loudest voice of opposition and yet the most unwilling to compromise. They say that the program enables users to violate copyright laws, which into profits. Under the law these companies are justified. The Copyright Act of 1976 says that owners have five rights:1. Only the copyright owner may reproduce or make copies of the work. 2. Only the copyright owner may create adoptions of the work. 3. Only the copyright owner may distribute copies of the work to the public. 4. The copyright owner has the exclusive right to perform the work in public. 5. Only the copyright owner may display the work in public. Napster recklessly defies all of these. Without exception every right of a copyright holder is violated. It is publically acknowledged that in many ways it is in fact stealing from the copyrighted material. Mike Langberg of Mercury Records states that Musicians would stop recording new music, because they couldnt afford studio time. There wouldnt be any big new stars, because the record industry couldnt justify the intensive marketing that exposes promising talent to a national audience. So therefore the people who are abusing the gift of music by downloading it free of charge would eventually make the artist creating the music unable to make new music because they would not be making any money. Such financial incapacitations would devastate all record labels foreign and domestic. Napster affects the artist both new and old because it doesnt allow them to make the money they have worked hard to make. Those who really suffer from Napster and other file-sharing programs are newer bands . When a record label picks up a new band, it is uncertain whether they will have the appeal necessary to hold the attention span of the American public. For this reason young artists are not paid that much for every CD that they sell. The first album that an artist releases is not meant to make money, but to solidify their status as an entertainer. With the introduction of Internet file-sharing a varible has been created in the assessment process. A band could have huge popularity, yet their label would not know it because file exchanges are not reported. These new artists are the ones that need the sales the most, and often times do not produce them because their one good song can be downloaded from the Internet. On the other hand, old bands such as Metallica who dont need to solidify their status, as entertainers believe that paying the artists through the Internet by having memberships would be a possible solution. Metallica has tried to reason with Napster and asked them to tak e them off of their lists and Napster refused. Lars from Metallica says that they are suing Napster for one reason because they exist to pirate music. The society is obliged to support families that have multiple babies born prematurely, with defects or mental retardation. These parents are under immense pressure to provide for and raise these children. The society is obliged to support these families in whatever means possible. The immediate extensive family plays a huge role in supporting these parents morally and financially. Premature children need to be loved by everyone in the family and external community. Financial assistance is vital to cater for constant hospitalization of these children. Children with mental retardation and prematurity need constant visitations for medical checkup to ensure that they grow and mature like other children. The community is obliged to offer financial support to these families. Through various community forums and organizations, the locals can take care of these children and accord them equal rights enjoyed as other healthy children. The community may also set up special schools with special teachers to guide these children as they develop. The local government and the federal government are also obliged to support families with disabilities. The government can enact of laws and policies that offer incentives to these parents and those that govern the development of these children. The local government is also mandated to establish institutions that will take care of these children as they grow as they belong to children with special need (Gillian, 2003). Abortion is a highly controversial moral subject worldwide. There are proponents of abortion who claim the practice is done to safeguard the health of the mother and the dignity of girls who have been sexually assaulted. Whereas, there are the opponents who argue that the vice is against the universal right to life and respect of life. There are various ethical issues with abortion. Ethical issues arise due to the moral dilemma. The reasons for procuring an abortion include not being able to raise the child at the moment or irresponsible parents. Such scenarios would warrant an abortion to avoid future suffering of the child. Some mothers claim that childbearing will interfere with their careers, or they have reached their limit of child bearing. The moral dilemma is the sanctity of life. Religious backgrounds claim that life begins after fertilization and terminating it at any stage is paramount to murder. With such personification, the fetus is entitled to the right of life as any other human being (Hinman, 2013). As such, they argue against abortion. However, medically, health professionals are obliged to abort so as to preserve the life of a mother if her pregnancy is complicated.
